THE AGE OF AQUARIUS AND PLUTO By: Gayle Geffner, Secretary NCGRLA

This article first appeared in NCGR’s January 31, 2023, ENews.  I have made a couple of minor changes.

The Age of Aquarius (according to Gnostic Philosopher Samael Aun Weor) began on February 4, 1962, when the first six planets aligned in Aquarius.  It takes about 2,160 years for an age to move from one constellation to the next.  At the beginning, and for a time before each new age, there seems to be turmoil, unrest, sometimes violence, etc.  As a beginning astrologer in the late ‘60s, I remember reading that we really would not truly be into the Age of Aquarius until about 2045.  No explanation given, just the year.

Briefly, if you look at some major happenings from 1962 until now, you see things like the JFK assassination; the man on the Moon (Aquarius technology); the civil rights movement, which was well under way in 1962 (Aquarian humanity); the Vietnam War; wars and skirmishes in the Middle East and in the Ukraine; the fight for women’s rights; demonstrations in China, some of which were quelled violently; demonstrations now in Russia, also sometimes quelled with violence; women gaining and then losing rights - two examples of this are women’s education and safety in Afghanistan (just recently a former female member of the Afghanistan Parliament, Mursal Nabizada, was shot and killed in her home) and abortion rights in the US with the overturning of Roe v. Wade.  The list goes on.  Whenever there is a new age, it seems to be a time of difficult transition with many years of dissension.  If you look at the Age of Pisces, man in the western world became religious in new ways and this came with dissension, persecution, and violence.  Western man looked to one God and was intolerant of other’s belief systems at the onset of the age of Pisces.   Later in the age of Pisces there were advancements such as a massive shift in technology during the industrial revolution, there was the Age of Enlightenment, and toward the end of Pisces just before entering Aquarius there were two world wars, and again the list goes on.

We have come a long way since 1962.  President Joseph Biden signed the bipartisan Respect For Marriage Act on December 13, 2022, 5:00 PM EST, Washington, DC, thus erasing the Defense of Marriage Act, which defined marriage as between a man and woman.  Some glass ceilings have been cracked and even broken.  In 2022, the men’s US World Cup soccer team (a fairly young team) voted to give part of their salaries to the women’s soccer team so there would be equal pay.  According to an article in the Los Angeles Times entitled “Quantum leap for clean energy” by Corinne Purtill, “Bay Area scientists are the first to generate power through carbon-free nuclear fusion.”  She describes this as a “significant milestone . . . to produce cheap, clean, carbon-free energy through nuclear fusion.”  (Aquarian technology at work).  This is very important for the Earth and the next generations to combat global warming.  However, it is still a long way off.

It is the usual two steps forward and one step back.  We are not quite there yet.

I think the catalyst for truly coming into the Age of Aquarius is Pluto.  Pluto will go into Aquarius for a brief time on March 23, 2023 to June 11,2023, and then retrograde out.  However, Pluto will enter Aquarius for an uninterrupted stay on January 21, 2024. The last time Pluto was in Aquarius was 1778 to 1798 (the Revolutionary War in America).  Pluto is destruction then rebuilding, purging what is toxic, reforming and of course control.   We have recently seen the effects of Pluto’s proximity to Aquarian ideals in world events.  We will probably see a lot more progress toward Aquarian ideals as Pluto truly enters Aquarius even though there will be difficulties and setbacks.  I think this is what the author of the article (whom I cannot recall and read many, many years ago but always remembered) was probably looking at when he or she wrote that the age will truly start in 2045 - after Pluto has helped the world to truly embrace the qualities of Aquarius and those six planets that aligned on February 4, 1962.

As an interesting aside, the Saturn-Pluto conjunction of January 12, 2020 was conjunct to the exact degree the Pluto in the chart of the First Continental Congress of September 5, 1774, 10:00 A.M., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  We all know what happened on January 6th.  You can see the Plutonian disruption taking place in the US, old power/control trying to hang on.  The first Continental Congress was the first time 12 of the 13 colonies joined together to become the United States.  At that time the US was forming and on January 6th, we were fighting for the soul of this contry with the January 12th conjunction obviously affecting what happened on January 6th.  You can see the dissension and turmoil while trying to remain a democracy with that conjunction just a few days away.  This is just another example of a Plutonian event on our way to 2045.

Probably one of the most obvious examples of Pluto in action is the use of nuclear power (represented by Pluto).  The United States used the atomic bomb in World War II (Pluto destruction), and now there’s the potential use of nuclear fusion for carbon free energy (Pluto rebuilding), which was just reported.  I think nuclear fusion may come to fruition between the years 2024 and 2045, and, hopefully more quickly than anticipated.

If you look at the US Sibley chart, you will see that Pluto entering Aquarius falls between Pluto at 27 degrees Capricorn and the South Node at 7 degrees Aquarius in the 2nd house, which is the wealth, ability to purchase, and economy of a nation.  You can imagine that there will be a lot of reform to the economy based on our past principles (South Node) and Aquarian ideals.  Of course rebuilding may be difficult at times but necessary for who we are to become.  Pluto in Aquarius is opposite the 8th house, which is the national debt, insurance, and social security.  Congress is already talking about the debt ceiling and cutting programs rather than raising the debt ceiling, and this will be the source of a lot of conflict from March through June this year, and carry over to January 2024 when Pluto enters Aquarius again for twenty years.  Thus, we will see over time a rebuilding based on values.  It may not always be easy, but Pluto is needed in all charts for major progress.  Pluto entering Aquarius is also trine the Midheaven (cusp of the 10th house).  The 10th house is the leadership, president, or premier of a country. This trine should smooth the way a little for our president to work on these economic issues.
