Meeting September 19th 2013

Speaker: Brian Evis

Topic:  Parents and Their Influence in the Chart

Coco's Restaurant:      18355 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana
6:00-7:00 pm - Social Gathering
7:00 pm - Speaker

Brian has been lecturing at the NCGR for 13 years now, and will be opening this season on September 19th. It will be a Pisces Full Moon the night before at the 26th degree - an occult, mystical influence that helps us to understand what is really going on behind the scenes. We will be looking at "How to see parents and their influence in the chart."

Brian will describe what to look for using Prince George's chart as an example. We have been made so aware by the media of what his parents, Kate & William, "appear to be." The truth is always in the child's chart! Among several topics, Brian will specifically use the Progressed Lunar Phase, and give all the possible examples for everyone attending to recognize in their own personal chart.

Brian will also demonstrate what we can learn about the day of the week you were born on, plus the planetary hour - and how to combine them. This gives a quick, fun way to add to understanding the personality.

Brian Evis is a Certified Professional Astrologer by the International Society for Astrological Research (ISAR). Since 1980, he has provided astrological counseling and consulting services for thousands of clients - including many successful leaders in the fields of entertainment and business, and fellow astrologers as well.

If anyone has suggestions for speakers or activities, feel free to call any of our officers. Everybody is asked to come as close to 6:00 PM as possible, as we must vacate the room by 9:30 PM. We might be having our elections this month so come prepared to vote for President, Vice President and Treasurer.  Adults only please – not an appropriate venue for children.

Please excuse the confusion here. Jack and I both blame the planets! We are back on for the 3rd Thursday. Jack has his own view of metaphysics and astrology which he will share, including Moon's nodes and how they affect your current life and reveal the secrets of your past lives.

Jack holds a Bachelor's in Psychology from City College in NY, and a Master's in Social Work from the Univ. of Penn. He has been a Uranium prospector, social worker, psychotherapist, probation officer, sailor and airplane pilot. He's been studying metaphysics and astrology since 1965. Jack's reincarnation studies led to 4 trips to Europe and one to the Middle East, and an intensive study of military history. Jack was a regular member on long-running TV program called Psychic Detectives. He has been, and presently is, the president of the LA Chapter of NCGR for the past 28 years, and has been teaching astrology at the Carroll Righter Institute since 1985.

Topic: The Power of Aspects

Coco's Restaurant
18355 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana (near Reseda Blvd)
6:00-7:00 pm - Social Gathering
7:00 pm - Speaker
Members: $3 Visitors: $5

Aspects are an integral part of astrology and chart interpretation.  At this meeting, you will learn new techniques to assist you in analyzing aspects, where their power comes from, and how to assess them.  What about applying and separating, double-applying and double-separating aspects, and how to distinguish between them Jim will talk about the speed of the planets, and retrograde planets.  We will look at how the planet's movement affects the aspect.

The Sun and Moon may always be direct, but does that mean that all transiting Moon aspects carry the same energy?  Jim will look at the difference between a slow-Moon applying aspect, a fast-Moon applying aspect, and separating Moon aspects.  What about aspects that don’t materialize?  Jim will show you how to spot these differences and how to evaluate planetary movements as well as the science behind them.

While emphasis will be on transiting aspects to a chart, the techniques can also be applied to the aspects in any chart.   There will be time to look at the charts of anyone in attendance who is interested to see how to apply these techniques to their chart.

Jim Schultz is a member of and Certified Astrological Professional of ISAR, and also a member of NCGR, AFA and OPA.  He is one of the current co-organizers of the Santa Monica Astrology Meetup Group which includes almost 300 members.  He previously spoke at NCGR on the 12th house and the Dance of Transiting Saturn and the Progressed Moon.  He is also a Dowser, Voyager Oracle consultant, and Personal Cartographer.

Everybody is asked to come as close to 6:00 PM as possible, as we must vacate the room by 9:30 PM.

Chapter member dues of $15.00 a year are due.  This does not apply to National NCGR members, who pay Nat'l NCGR directly. The advantage of National NCGR membership is receipt of NCGR publications. Dues are used to pay our speakers and maintain our mailing list, and pay our chapter expenses.

Meeting April 18th 2013

Speaker: Marc Penfield and Sheldon Rosner

Topic: Serial Killers and Mass Murderers

Coco's Restaurant
18355 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana (near Reseda Blvd)

6:00-7:00 pm - Social Gathering
7:00 pm - Speaker
Members: $3 Visitors: $5

"Murder most foul" said Shakespeare. We are confronted almost daily on TV and radio by horrific stories of macabre stories of mass murderers and serial killers. We are outraged and shocked. Our two astro-detectives, Marc Penfield and Sheldon Rosner, have researched the horoscopes of those killers to find the planetary signatures of murderers – and will share their findings with us.

Marc, an astrologer for over 50 years, is the author of many astrology books and hundreds of articles, an international speaker, and a data collector and researcher. He is a major contributor to the database of charts contained in Kepler. He developed an early love of astrology and geography which he has blended with this knowledge of astrology.

Marc was a travel agent for over 20 years and a cataloger for a used bookstore where he found lots of data which he uses in his books. Marc was the first treasurer of the ISAR, and in 2005 received a lifetime service award from ISAR at their convention in Chicago. Marc has also written hundreds of articles for Mercury Hour, Aspects, Welcome to Planet Earth, The Mountain Astrologer, and the Monthly Review from Australia.

Marc Penfield has authored many books including:  An Astrological Who's Who; The Nadi System of Rectification; Bon Voyage: An Astrological Study of Relocation; Solar Returns in Your Face; Stars Over England; America: An Astrological Portrait, Horoscopes of Europe; Horoscopes of the US and Canada; Horoscopes of the Western Hemisphere.

Sheldon began his study of astrology in high school, after earning his AA degree, he studied at the Academy of Atlantis, the Carroll Righter Institute, and went on to study with more teachers. Sheldon had a nationally broadcast show on cable radio network from 1996 to 2003. He self-published the book “Your Place in the Universe. He has been teaching private classes, and participated in a panel discussion at our chapter.

Sheldon has been a guest on the Playboy Channel, Blind Date, and debated Penn & Teller (An anti-astrology television DVD). Sheldon has written columns for several publications, including regular astrological forecasts. He has a large astrological consulting practice.

Everybody is asked to come as close to 6:00 PM as possible, as we must vacate the room by 9:30 PM.

There is a Venus-Neptune sextile transitting on this evening - so we will have lots of fun with this subject!

Note: We want to thank David Kalms for hosting our 2013 Internation Astrology Day party.  A lot of fun was had by all. It was an opportunity for astrologers to get to know each other, and for new members to get to know the regulars.  Thank you David for your time and energy!

Meeting February 21, 2013

Speaker: James A. Baker

The Key to Your Shadow Life

 Coco's Restaurant
18355 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana (near Reseda Blvd)

6:00-7:00 pm - Social Gathering
7:00 pm - Speaker

If you use astrology for your own insights, or to help other people with theirs, this tool can explain our growth and connection that comes from these invisible influences. In many ways, they are simple – and often profound. Using the chart of the United States and prominent personalities, you will see how.

Like many before him, James began his journey in astrology with the intention of disproving and discrediting it, and playing with it in conversation:  "So what's your sign?" It was the thing to do in the 60's.

His interest in it soon became a passion at the 2nd waxing square of Saturn to his natal Saturn. He opened his office in Newport Beach, and began the practice and teaching of astrology. His studies in philosophy, psychology, alchemy, tarot, meditation, and other spiritual diciplines have added to his perspective, wisdom and enthusiasm. He continues to demonstrate his joy in sharing his knowledge. You are invited to share!

Note:  We are looking for a place to celebrate International Astrology Day. Any suggestions?

If anyone has any suggestions for speakers or chapter activities, please call Jack at 818-716-1765.

Everybody is asked to come as close to 6:00 PM as possible, as we must vacate the room by 9:30 PM. We wish our friends and colleagues a happy, healthy and prosperous new year!

Meeting January 17 2013

Speaker: Ra Rishikavi Raghudas

Seership - A Rightbrain Approach to Chart Interpretation

 Coco's Restaurant
18355 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana (near Reseda Blvd)

6:00-7:00 pm - Social Gathering
7:00 pm - Speaker
Members: $3 Visitors: $5

Ra Rishikavi Raghudas has 30 years of experience as an astrologer, healer, and public speaker on metaphysical topics. He teaches tantra yoga and tarot. Ra majored in Egyptian languages at the University of Michigan. He was a well-known poet in his home state of Michigan, and read his poetry in a performance for President Clinton in 1997. He has written astrological columns, and authored a forth-coming book "Astro-Oscars: Astrology Meets the Academy Awards."

Ra believes that vision and intuition are required for astute astrological analysis, as well as intellectual knowledge of symbols, aspects and life cycles. In this talk, Ra expounds that the astrologer must be a seer, not merely a regurgitator of astrological data.

Note: We want to thank Angel Thompson, our Hostess with the Mostest, for hosting our "End of the World" party. The world did not end on December 21, 2012, but it was a good excuse to have a party, and a good time was had by all once again. Thanks again Angel!
