Meeting November 15 2012

Speaker: Rich Humbert

Topic: Apocalypse Not

Coco's Restaurant
18355 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana (near Reseda Blvd)

6:00-7:00 pm - Social Gathering
7:00 pm - Speaker
Members: $3 Visitors: $5

Richard's November meeting talk will tell us why the world will not end on December 21, 2012, at 10 AM.  Instead, the world is under going a metamorphosis as shown by the transcendental planets: Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.  We will also explore the Winter Solstice of December 21 and its importance to us all.

Rich Humbert has been practicing astrology for over 40 years. He is an accredited instructor with Aquarius Workshops in Los Angeles. He first encountered metaphysical ideas while stationed at Camp Pendleton in 1962. While browsing the Oceanside public library's unusually large collection of occult books, Annie Besant's writing flipped on his spiritual switch. He taught himself how to cast a horoscope and started the life-long process of learning astrology.

He began his meditative work at the same time taking a mantra from Swami Satchidananda. He studied and then taught yoga under the auspices of the Integral Yoga Institute while living in their ashram. He taught yoga classes at Lorton Prison as well as at more liberated settings. He was extremely fortunate to study several years with the late Barbara Watters, the foremost political astrologer of that time. Fate brought him employment at the American Federation of Astrologers headquarters in Washington, D.C. in the early 1970's.

His astrological practice, Celestial Weather, began in the late 1970's as a weekly radio spot on WHFS-FM in Washington D. C. After moving to Los Angeles in 1995, he resumed active work in astrology and soon began study with Marion March.  In 1999 he resumed teaching astrology by co-teaching a series of master classes with Marion March until the time of her death in 2001. He developed his own "Turning Points" classes in predictive methods for advanced students. He continues to lecture, teach and consult with individuals and businesses internationally, and continues to teach a Master Class called "Turning Points" for advanced students.

Everybody is asked to come as close to 6:00 PM as possible, as we must vacate the room by 9:30 PM.

Note: We are planning an Apocalypse Not Christmas Party for Sunday December 16th.  Mark your calendars!  Angel's new address is 857 Burrell St., Marina Del Rey. Any questions call Jack at 818-716-1765

Sheldon will give us an overview of the momentous Uranus-Pluto square and its worldwide and personal effects. Uranus square Pluto has seven occurrences from June 2012 until March 2015. It caused massive financial meltdown, as well as massive social, economic and political changes.

Sheldon began his study of astrology in high school, after earning his AA degree, he studied at the Academy of Atlantis, the Carroll Righter Institute, and went on to study with more teachers. Sheldon had a nationally broadcast show on cable radio network from 1996 to 2003. He self-published the book “Your Place in the Universe. He has been teaching private classes, and participated in a panel discussion at our chapter.

Sheldon has been a guest on the Playboy Channel, Blind Date, and debated Penn & Teller (An anti-astrology television DVD). Sheldon has written columns for several publications, including regular astrological forecasts. He has a large astrological consulting practice.

Meeting June 21

Speaker: Franciscus C. Cisco Huijbregts

Topic:  New Moon Before Birth Chart

Coco's Restaurant:      18355 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana
6:00-7:30 pm - Social Gathering          7:45 pm - Speaker

Our esteemed speaker will offer his views on what to look for in the New Moon Before Birth (NMB4b) chart and how it relates to relationships. The NMB4b chart shows our underlying hidden motivations in life. When working on relationships, you can see if each person's inner motivation will work toward a good relationship – or if they will unwittingly clash with each other.

Cisco started using this technique after looking at the New and Full Moons for many years and wondering how this show's up in people's lives.  It seemed to show one of the inner drives of life. It's easy to find the time for the NMB4b in any ephemeris or most astrology programs – just cast the chart for the location of birth, and away you go!  Cisco says:  "Fun stuff - try it out on yourself."

Cisco is an Aquarian with enough Leo Rising to entertain even the dullest skeptic. A Vietnam Vet, born in Holland, raised in Australia – Cisco has long been a student of the physical, sociological and esoteric sciences. He studied physics and chemistry in college before being drafted by the US Army.  There he trained scout dogs and worked as a photographer.  After the service, he studied psychology and anthropology, earning his BS degree.  Among his many accomplishments is his work on the the Apollo 11 lunar lander.

Cisco then took up astrology and attended classes at Carroll Righter's in Hollywood. He began teaching there a few years later, and currently instructs the advanced students.  Cisco has lectured internationally, and has been on radio and TV.  He hosts the “Aquarian Astrology” series for Time-Warner Cable in Santa Clarita and Ventura.  See:  http://www.scvtv.com/yourscv/yscv-cisco-list.html

Meeting May 17

Speaker: Jim Schultz

Topic:  Dance of Progressed Moon and Saturn

Coco's Restaurant:      18355 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana
6:00-7:30 pm - Social Gathering          7:45 pm - Speaker

Transiting Saturn takes about 29 1/2 years to transit the 360 degrees of a chart to a Saturn return.  The secondary progressed Moon also takes about 29 1/2 years to transit the 360 degrees of a chart from progressed New Moon to progressed New Moon.  Because both cycles are of similar length, the two will at times get locked into an aspect dance that will last for several years.  When that aspect is a conjunction, square or opposition, a person may be in for a lengthy period of challenges.

We will look into this dance more closely and how these extended cycles may manifest.  We will show how you can determine if you were in one of these cycles in the past, are in one now, or will be in one in the future. Time permitting, we will also look at the charts of anyone in attendance who is interested to see what, if any, dance cycle they may be.

BIO:  Jim Schultz is an ISAR Certified Astrological Professional and also a member of NCGR, AFA and OPA.  He is one of the current co-organizers of the Santa Monica Astrology Meetup Group with over 240 members.  He previously spoke at NCGR on the 12th house.  He is also a Dowser and a Voyager Tarot consultant.

Everyone is invited to bring their progressed charts, as this is promising to be a very informative meeting.

If anyone has suggestions for speakers or activities, feel free to call any of our officers. Everybody is requested to come as close to 6:00 pm as possible so that we can get to our speaker in a timely fashion since we only have the room for a limited amount of time.   Adults only please – not an appropriate venue for children.

Topic:  Applying the Horoscope in Couple’s Counseling

Coco's Restaurant:      18355 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana

6:00-7:30 pm - Social Gathering          7:45 pm - Speaker

Dr. Weil is an MFT psychotherapist who uses the astrological chart in her practice, as well as astrological synastry in her couple's therapy. She holds a bachelors degree in Middle Eastern Studies, a masters and PhD from Pacifica Graduate Institute in clinical psychology, and practices psychology using the Jungian approach. Her practice is in Calabasas counseling couples with relationship problems, as well as individual therapy. Dr. Weil is on the board of the Organization of Professional Astrologers, and the editor of OPA's  newsletter. She is the group leader of their 3-day workshop on astrology and relationships. Dr. Weil was born in Israel and is a former paratrooper. Read more about Dr. Weil's practice on her website

In this presentation you will learn about the deep fundamental structure behind the Couple Relationship: what happens when we fall in love, how and why we attract the person we attract, and how to use astrological synastry to work through a relationship's conflicts. Just because two people have difficult aspects between them does not mean their relationship is doomed. Rather, these difficult aspects offer the key to understanding their conflict, and a guide to working through these conflicts – and achieving deeper communication and love. Dr. Weil is certified in Imago relationship therapy, and offers services to both individuals and couples facing various challenges.

Past Meeting January 19

Speaker: Charlene Whitaker

Topic:  Know Your Ascendant

Coco's Restaurant:      18355 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana
6:00-7:30 pm - Social Gathering
         7:45 pm - Speaker

Are you what people think you are?  In the first three minutes of a relationship people form an initial opinion of each other.  They are deciding who you are and whether they like you based on your appearance and personality.  Let's take a closer look at the sign on the first house cusp known as the Ascendant or Rising Sign.  Bring your chart and those of friends and family to find out if they fit the characteristics of the sign on the ascendant.

Charlene Whitaker is a well-known Los Angeles astrologer and metaphysician. She uses this background as counselor, teacher, lecturer, and writer.  Author of "Gems of Wisdom", and "Candles, Meditation and Healing", she has participated in many television and radio talk shows, and has been featured in newspapers.  In addition to teaching advanced astrology at the Carroll Righter home in Hollywood, California, Charlene taught spiritual development for 35 years. Charlene is the founder of Cosmic Academy of Metaphysical Arts in Canoga Park, CA, and devotes herself full-time to counseling and teaching. Her teaching techniques have proven effective in years of classes with hundreds of students.

Note:  We want to thank Angel Thompson, our "Hostess with the Mostest", for hosting our official 2011 NCGR Christmas party.  A lot of fun was had by all; and more importantly, it was an opportunity for astrologers to get to know each other.  Many phone numbers and emails were exchanged, meaning that people have the desire to communicate with each other – which translates to a stronger astrological community.  We want to thank Dan Khoury, Nancy Schorr, and Shawn Sykora for their assistance with the party's logistics.  Thank you Angel for donating your home.

Congratulations to Charlene Whitaker who was elected as Treasurer by member vote at the October 2011 meeting in Tarzana.  If anyone has any thoughts, or suggestions that may help our chapter, please contact any of our officers or contact Cisco at ncgr@mail.com.
